    Light Up Little Common

We are excited to announce that Light Up Little Common is returning in the new year. This time our theme is Safari! This celebration of art through the medium of light will take place on Wednesday 14th January and we would love for you and your family to join us.

We believe that art plays a vital role in every child’s education. It sparks creativity, encourages self-expression, and helps develop confidence and problem-solving skills. When children engage with art, they explore their imaginations and experience the joy of creating something unique.

As part of our Light Up Little Common art event, pupils will be making sculptures using a range of materials. They’ll have time and resources in school to work on their class projects, but we’d love families to join in at home too! Big or small, we invite you to experiment with different materials and let your creativity shine. The theme for the exhibition is “On Safari.”

Please include a battery-powered light with your sculpture so we can illuminate it during the event. If your sculpture is large, please provide a stand for display. We’ll also be running a competition to celebrate all the amazing artwork.

In order that our pupils can attain the highest standard, at Little Common we recognise the crucial importance of an active educational partnership between home and school.

Homework is just one of the ways in which we seek to foster this partnership. Homework encompasses a whole variety of activities instigated by teachers and parents to support children’s learning.

    Aims:

    • To help children to make progress and ensure children have the best opportunities to meet and deepen their knowledge and understanding of the expectations for their year group set out in the National Curriculum
    • To help parents gain an insight into their child’s school work, support in children's learning and promote partnerships between home and school.
    • To support children develop their fluency and comprehension skills in reading
    • To support children in developing their understanding and recall of known mathematical facts such as time tables, division facts and number bonds
    • To practise and consolidate further skills
    • To broaden the context of learning and provide enrichment and extension
    • To become independent learners and to develop perseverance and positive attitudes to learning beyond the classroom
    • To support children in becoming responsible and organised in their learning at home as a preparation for more frequent homework at secondary school
